Portable spectrum analyzer ARINST SSA TG R2s is designed to display the spectrums of signals in the frequency range 35-6200 MHz. The device is designed to determine the amplitude and frequency of the spectral components included in the signal. The device displays the spectrums of signals of all modern technologies: Wi-Fi, 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE, CDMA, DCS, GSM, GPRS, GLONASS, etc. The signal is displayed on the device’s screen in the form of a spectrum graph, a spectrogram, a trace, and a diagram with «digital phosphor» technology. The presence of a built-in signal generator, allows you to measure the magnitude-frequency characteristics of active / passive devices (amplifiers, repeaters, filters) and measure reflections / standing wave ratio (SWR).
ARINST SSA-TG R2s is different from ARINST SSA-TG R2:
- no way to control the device via Bluetooth
- no way to transmit data via Bluetooth
- no software to control the device using devices based on Android and Windows
- the output power level of the tracking generator is not standardized
- has a vertically oriented screen
Application
ARINST SSA-TG R2s is primarily intended for field operation. The device is rugged and light with low energy consumption. It enables service centers and maintenance teams to perform on-the-spot HF analysis for commissioning and repair works. Moreover, the spectrum analyzer is a perfect solution for repair workshops and radio amateurs.
Using the device you can perform the following operations:
- put an external antenna on the base station;
- to conduct a rapid analysis of RF environments;
- check the correct operation of the repeater cellular;
- repair and adjustment of the repeater, generator, filter, etc.;
- measure SWR when using an external directional coupler.
Principle of operation
The spectrum analyzer is a portable device that is connected to the measured circuit and has an independent power supply. The device has a 3.2" color resistive touch screen to display the signal spectrum and to control the device.

The main functions of the application for controlling the device:
- Viewing the spectrum of signals in the form of graphs with setting the frequency range and reference level
- In the additional “trace” mode the minimum signal values (green trace), maximum values (red trace) or average values (yellow trace) are displayed
- An additional display mode of the frequency-time diagram of the signal allows to analyze the background of the signal for a certain time interval. Due to the selectivity of the color perception of a person, with the help of the frequency-time diagram it is possible to detect signals at a noise level:
- An additional "digital phosphorus" display mode is an alternative way to visualize the time-frequency diagram, in which the signal amplitudes are displayed on a scale, and their temporal location is set in a color
- In the mode «Tracking» the generator generates signals in a predetermined frequency range. In the mode «Tracking», you can determine the amplitude-frequency characteristic of the equipment under test
- The device in the measurement mode of the S11 parameter uses a scalar SOL calibration. And these measurements are not vector, that is, they provide compensation only for the amplitude of the signal without phase
- In the SWR measurement mode, the graph is displayed with the vertical axis as a numerical coefficient of the standing wave, and on the horizontal axis the specified frequency range of the signal
Items not included in the box
- external attenuation network. The maximum input power, which is supplied to the device, is limited by +5 dBm. If it is necessary to measure a larger value, each user of the device has to select the necessary attenuators on one’s own;
- set of the super-high frequency adapters.
Limitations:
The spectrum analyzer ARINST SSA-TG R2s is not a measure gauge, as it does not have an approved pattern of the measuring equipment. The approval of pattern of the measuring equipment has had a negative effect on the availability and price of the device. For this reason the spectrum analyzer is officially considered a field indicator. However, the device fully meets all technical requirements.
